This week Joey from local punk fanzine Infekted Mind asked me a few questions like he does with most of the local fanzine people. I've read most of his stuff over the net( Infekted Mind ) and I wanna get some of his issues. Go check it out.
Here's the interview for those interested, It was soo cool answering this because I never value my own opinion that much and I never would have thought someone would be interested in what I have to say. So fuck yes WTI is inspired because of this hehehe. "We" Will continue on w/ Issue #2 and will post an in depth interview sometime this month with Jervish and Victilator of local thrash band Rabies cause they have just been so awesome this year. Also will have contributor(s) for the second issue so stay tuned! this issue will be heaps heaps better heaaaapsssss I tellsya. I rarely compliment my work so let me off with a warning this time haha!
Infekted Mind Zine:
Can you pls introduce yourself and can you tell the readers something about your zine?- We The Infected :
Hey there Infekted Minds! hehe. I am Carlos Lanzona from Las Pinas City/Philippines! I am the sole guy that writes and makes up We The Infected fanzine, basically the zine is about passionate old school metal and punk rock styled music + a few of my personal thoughts about everything under the sun be it religion, music and so on down on paper. I give it away for free or donation but prefer trade. contributions + articles about anything are welcome too!
IM: What influenced / inspire you to make your own zine?
WTI:
The local anti-poseur/anti-trend DIY thrash band Paganfire inspired me to be part of underground networking because I find the concept fascinating, pure and just real non bullshit stuff.. Nonoy, Axeman of PF is probably like my mentor or something. he gave me my first zine Noise Gate#1 from macedonia and I've been collecting zines ever since. Paganfire ideologies play a huge role in my POV they have the proper diy mindset. I'm a raging fanboy, they rule.
IM: Zine's that influence you?
WTI:
I Remember Halloween, Konspirazine, Incidental Afterthought and Aspire zine is a huge influence specially Aspire they had a line that said "If you don't like this zine by all means do your own" or something like that... I liked Jay's zine very much and did my own version as well! hehe, I remember halloween is soooo goood. The consistent quality is awesome Dane is epic, lets just leave it at everybody is awesome. sir Jepand Wordslinger great zinesters.(Check them out their blogs are on the left side of this site)IM:How many issues have you release so far? Any future release?WTI:Only one so far,the first issue is a bit shitty and all over( ideas scattered as fucked) featuring interviews w/ thrash and punk bands, but I'm working on the second one right now. We the infected will never stop unless my arms get amputated and fed to alligators and even then I will try to learn to type w/ my feet.
IM:what can you say about our local zine scene today?WTI:
Even though I think I'm not part of the punk scene because I don't know many people and don't listen to as much punk as I do heavy metal. I really LOVE the local d.i.y. punk/hardcore scene very much because its filled with unbridled energy no showing off and just playing their hearts out.. Same w/ the punk/hxc zines they rule. I don't like the xerox/paper metal zine scene so much outside of the now dormant ones like TRDNT NTN and METAL HAVOC because its too expensive and clinical/cold IMO. Also most of them I don't like the genre's they tackle since I only listen to punk, thrash, speed and heavy metal and non-metal, if you were to spread propaganda you should make it top priority for the message to be access-able. I haven't read WOD and IDP though so no comment on them, but they've been wayyy established before Iwas born( i think) hehe..
IM:your goal?
WTI:My goal is just to write and write and write and when I get to a point where I piss too many people off, I probably am doing the right thing. I think there is too much apathy in the metal scene right now. Lots of things need to be noticed like how some so called Metal Pioneers or old schoolers have these cult of personalities, everyone is clinging on/listening to their unproductive procrastinating bullshit opinions and rants and living off that example when we should start thinking for ourselves, not let anybody command our way of thinking and break those respect barriers when all they do is just cling on to their past glories and boring tired stories of who's more metal and old school whilst corrupting the airwaves, magazines, T.V. and other forms of media with their putrid negative bile without doing anything worthy of praise up to the present. these things hold us back as a community and need to be abolished as soon as possible for us to run more smoothly be it as an individual, production, collective or as a music/radical/political/whatever scene as a whole. Out of all of pioneers I respect sir Paul Magat a lot he's awesome and cool still very relevant up to this very moment.
